Accommodation is spread across 86 garden casitas in seven different categories: freestanding villas of luxurious style, the proportion (many exceed 1,000 square feet) and privacy.
No two casitas are exactly alike: their location, size, architecture, and collections of museum-quality folk art make each one unique. All accommodation is on ground-level and opens onto adjacent gardens and large patios. Interior layouts include sitting areas, desks, generous bathrooms, and most rooms have fireplaces (when making a reservation, be sure to ask for a villa with a fireplace if this is important to you).
All rooms include air conditioning. Amenities include CD players, mini-refrigerators, robes, irons, safes, umbrellas, flashlights, hair dryers, coffee pots, reverse-osmosis-filtered drinking water and a telephone with voice mail service.
Please note, the casitas do not have televisions. Wi-fi is available in several common lounges at the Ranch, as well as in our complimentary Internet Center, which most guests use to check their email.
No meat or poultry is served, but a seafood “catch of the day” is available at dinner four times a week and several times for lunch. Meals are a balanced offering of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, dairy, and egg products. Vegans find it easy to select from our buffets, and vegetarian entrées at dinner are entirely plant-based. Gluten-free dishes are available at every meal.
Meal times at the Ranch are about creating camaraderie and community. The Ranch provides three meals at which guests can come together and enjoy each other’s company. Breakfast and lunch are informal while dinner is a sit-down affair. Guests can choose to sit at community tables, two-seaters, a private table, a solo dinner or a silent table.
Sample Menu:
Breakfast: Served buffet style, including eggs, ranch beans, tortillas, salsa, fresh fruit, granola, oatmeal, muffins and toast.
Lunch: Served buffet style, including salad and assorted vegetable table, vegetable soup, ranch-style pizza, spinach quesadilla, rancho tostada, tempeh sandwich, veggie burger.
Dinner: Served at the table, including options of salads, soups, stir-fry, fresh halibut Tecate style, spinach and mushroom enchilada, spinach lasagna, shrimp spring roll, twice-baked potato with tofu and vegetables

Carretera Tecate-Tijuana K.M 136.5, Rancho la Puerta, 21520 Tecate, B.C., Mexico
The Ranch is located in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico just 45 miles southeast of San Diego. A valid passport is mandatory for travel to Mexico from the USA.
Most guests from outside of Southern California arrive via commercial airline at San Diego International Airport (SAN) on a Saturday. The Ranch staff can greet you at the terminal and organise a motor coach heading for Rancho La Puerta.
If you live in San Diego or even Los Angeles, driving is also possible: make sure to obtain additional insurance coverage for driving in Mexico, as most US policies do not cover driving south of the border. You may also opt to leave your car on the U.S. side in Tecate, California, just north of the border crossing. Rancho La Puerta will send a Ranch van and driver to pick you up at the border, escort you through the simple visa process, and on to the Ranch.
Please keep in mind the Tecate border crossing is open 5am to 11pm. The lot where you leave your car is one the Ranch uses frequently and typically costs about $5 per day.
